I don't think it's due to any huge bias against JWs any more than what is typical Russian policy to promote the Orthodox church as the state religion. JWs get it worse because they are actively trying to make converts. When people who have been Orthodox all their lives start complaining that their sons, daughters, grandchildren, or parents wont speak to them because they have become JWs then it's no surprise when JWs become more than a nuisance to the authorities than other Christian sects might be.

That was disturbing. It made me subconsciously begin to root for the JWs to get these clowns off their property and for them to have their meeting in peace. If that was not sanctioned by AAWA and they are indeed ashamed of that, they should do the classy thing and ring that KH and apologise for what these men did while using their literature and completely disavow them. You don't need to be an attorney to tell people who are quite obviously there to make a disturbance to piss off.

Officer Wilson not indicted in killing of Michael Brown
by Simon inafter a thorough investigation and weighing of the evidence the grand jury has decided not to indict the officer.. the reaction so far seems as predicted - people refuse to accept that the result represents justice despite claims that is what they wanted.. there is now violence and vandalism, including gunshots.

There are incidents like this in Ferguson precisely because it is tolerated and in some cases downright encouraged by authority figures, mass media, and popular culture. It's like letting your child know that if they don't get what they want then they should just trash the home in the hopes of teaching you a lesson not to make the same mistake again. Cities are literally held hostage by this threat. The schools and municipal offices were even closed as if to say "we know you aren't going to like this and fully expect you to riot". What precedent does this create? That's an easy one. If you are black and get killed by someone who is not black, hold the entire justice system and cities hostage until you get whoever did it in jail for life. Let's face it, even if Wilson was charged it would have never been enough for this mob. Worst case scenario - manslaughter. A few years in custody at most. Would there be looting again at the perceived leniency of the sentence? Absolutely. I'm not even sure a lifetime sentence would have sufficed. We would have heard these tired old memes that at least Wilson is still alive, Brown is not.

It doesn't help when the leadership in the USA makes the following comments regarding the case, always with a caveat:
Obama: First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law. And so, we need to accept that this decision was the grand jury’s to make. There are Americans who agree with it, and there are Americans who are deeply disappointed, even angry. It’s an understandable reaction…
Translation: Though the investigative process was followed and the grand jury made their decision based on the facts and witnesses, it's quite understandable that people are very angry about this. Notice how the focus is on the unnamed Americans who are 'deeply disappointed, even angry'. The others just simply 'agree with it'. More effort is made to explain the emotions of the people who didn't agree. This is pure manipulation. "We don't want any violence, respect the decision, but we understand why you are so angry".
Obama: Finally, we need to recognize that the situation in Ferguson speaks to broader challenges that we still face as a nation. The fact is in too many parts of this country a deep distrust exists between law enforcement and communities of color. Some of this is the result of the legacy of racial discrimination in this country. And this is tragic because nobody needs good policing more than poor communities with higher crime rates.
Translation: Though we need to accept the decision by the grand jury, Americans need to also accept that there's a 'legacy of racial discrimination in this country'. OK. Just who is going around saying that the USA does not have a legacy of racial discrimination? Why speak of this legacy now unless you see a clear connection to the incident in Ferguson? So yes, what this is saying is that Wilson shooting Brown was a clear-cut result of the country's legacy of racial discrimination. How so? So Wilson shot him in a pique of racial discrimination? If the man charging him and struggling for his gun were white, Wilson would chuckled it off and been extremely careful to the point of risking his own life in order not to shed any white blood?
What police officer in his or her right mind is ever going to want this job? The real message from Ferguson is this: If you police the streets of a community where you do not belong and don't look like the people you are trying to police, you are automatically a suspect in any incident of racial discrimination. Your name will be plastered around the media and public consciousness as a racist murderer. Even if a grand jury or any jury decided that you are innocent of these charges, your government will go around saying that people still have a reason to be angry about you and what you did. It's like being told that if you ever get involved in an incident with someone of another race at your workplace, you will be immediately investigated for racial discrimination and the presumption is that you are racist until proven otherwise.

I could never get over the fact that Jehovah evidently had a point system. Keep chugging along within the confines of his organisation, you'll make it to the finish line. So you need to kiss his organisation's ass in order to please Christ and Him, and you'll get in. Everything after that point will take care of itself? Well, not quite because you still have to prove faithful through the 1000 year reign and then as a 'perfect' human being you successfully fend off Satan's last temptations fresh out of the abyss. Sounds like a complex medieval style labyrinth to me. Why do you have to constantly prove that you are deserving of life? That shouldn't be an elite club. There are many people I dislike whom I still feel are deserving of life. What's so difficult about that?

Preaching is a waste of time
by konceptual99 inbefore anyone gives me the "bears/wood" similarities, this is a post based on insidethekh's reply on the mormon v jw thread.
(http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/287545/1/who-is-copying-who-jws-or-mormons) i like to see wt friendly posts on here as some of the wt bashing displays the same logical fallacies as levelled against the wts and it's followers so it's good to consider reasoned debate.. on the one hand i think itkh makes a fair point if you compare the worldwide success of mormons v jws but there is an overall context to the preaching work that is completely ignored by those fully "in" and has been a major factor in my move from being an active witness to one on the cusp of getting out.
from a statistical point of view there are great headline numbers presented by the wts but if you put them in the context of the number of witnesses, conversation ratios, ratio of new witnesses to birth rates, numbers that must be leaving, growth differentials across the globe, penetration in muslim nations and so on then these numbers become meaningless.

Preaching is not effective in the JW style because it has become so much of a routine to the point where putting on a suit or dress on Saturday morning to go out in field service is now no more than a ritual. It's like Catholics and Sunday Mass - just by showing up you get your weekly ticket stamped to heaven (or paradise). Hardly anyone was interested in going door-to-door anymore. It was all about Return Visits (much of it to elderly people who appreciated the company), Bible Studies with acquaintances or family members, or Not-At-Homes which frankly people hoped would continue to be not at home. It was a social outing with the traditional 'coffee break' which goes on longer than most COs are comfortable with. JWs have gotten so used to being turned down that they just go through the motions of preaching and the organisation is so backward thinking they can hardly think of a new strategy outside of wearing JW.ORG buttons.

I just read the wiki article on Cedar Point. Not one mention of JWs. Not even a footnote that says 'Jehovah's Witnesses today believe that one of the seven trumpet blasts described in the book of Revelation occurred here'. Historic indeed. I doubt even zealous JWs would make the pilgrimage unless it were connected with existing plans to spend a day on the rides.

It was largely due to that book that I really started having some doubts that these people in Brooklyn knew what they were talking about, with the 'trumpet blasts' in Ohio being the worst of the offenders. I was at the time independently reading about Mormons and their belief structure and how they felt that the Garden of Eden was located in Missouri USA. This was yet another example of a modern day sect taking passages out of the Bible and applying it to modern day locations that they were associated with in order to place a sense of permanancy and legitimacy upon their movements. When counseled about my subsequent lack of enthusiasm for anything JW related, I started asking questions about the Revelation book. When they realised that I had hit a point where I could not accept such claims nor could they defend them without resorting to the old 'FDS' argument, I was simply told to ignore the book and not think about it anymore. I was a bit upset by this 'solution', so I gathered up all of my Spanish and English copies of the book and gave them to the man who gave me this advice. He didn't say anything. I think he was shocked more than anything. There was a 'local needs' talk shortly after which vaguely referenced it but nothing further was done about it. I honestly feel to this day that the brothers couldn't in their own minds provide a satisfactory explanation for these claims and preferred to just let the matter drop.

"opinions about dress and grooming, health and nutrition, and other personal matters may also trigger controversy.
accordingly, if no scriptural principle is being violated, jehovah's people wisely abstain from arguing over such matters, "for a slave of the lord does not need to fight, but needs to be gentle [tactful, ftn.

Tony and the rest of the GB junta read what you just quoted and will say it applies to regular JW - JW interactions. It doesn't apply to them when they want to give counsel since they are the FDS. It's an astute move when you think about it - it halts all the endless inquiries to HQ complaining about dress and asking for a clarification whilst at the same time allows them to set forth law just by giving a talk. These talks get parroted by their representatives and it's all the same as writing it down in the WT without actually having to write it down and invite controversy.
